I’ve been listening to the Boss Guy’s show for 30 or 31 years now, and now I’m being confronted about how I’m gonna spend my Sunday nights.

That is wild, wow... such dedication!

I wish I could've seen the US Festival in 1983. I saw it on Betamax back then, but would've been wild to be at the concert in person.

I knew a few people who went, not sure if I'd have wanted to be there. There was some kind of repiritory ailment a lot of people came back with!

Ohhh, yeah, I can imagine it was a rough place to be out in the searing heat and all the dust kicking up and who knows what else!

I was finishing up junior high and starting high school in 1983.

I remember recording that second annual US Festival from 1983 live off the air as it was happening on KMET radio… anyone remember them?

I know these tidbits of info, as I was there to the very end of KMET’s transmission, which ended at 12 noon on Valentine’s Day, 1987.

I was more partial to KNAC and then Pirate Radio in terms of commercial rock radio stations of that era. Maybe KROQ in the later 1980s.

Wal, the KTWV said that the KMET staff were not fired on air, so I deleted my earlier comment about that (that you responded to at 4:26pm)

I only stuck around just long enough to hear what the first song on “The Wave” was, which ironically enough was also played by KMET & KLOS back in the day.

Dave, WGTB in Washington DC went off the air in late January 1979. It was a free-form station broadcasting out of Georgetown University, which was shut down by the Catholic Church-affiliated university administration. I taped the final minutes of its broadcast. I think I still have the cassette.

*The KTWV wikipedia article said that ...

Dave, WGTB's final song was supposed to be "Heroes" by David Bowie. The dj didn't take the needle off the record in time so it ended up being the next song on the Heroes album, "Sons of the Silent Age", which was even more appropriate for that station going off the air.

Ha, wow. That is an apt ending!

KMET’s passing was the saddest day for me ever in my listening to the radio… until now, with the passing of the Boss Guy in Claremont Show after tomorrow night, which will now be the worst radio loss ever for me.

I know Jeff will be familiar with this as a die-hard BGC devotee like myself, but Boss Guy sometimes is “slow on the draw” by not taking the needle off the LP after playing the song. When it ends, we get an extra song. Perhaps he should do that one final time at the end of his show.
