When words gone
Join us for a wide-ranging survey of new releases recorded mainly in Europe, but featuring musicians from all over the world. We continue our exploration of new offerings by Charles Uzor, Mary Halvorson, the Ingrid Laubrock/Tom Rainey duo, and Heiner Goebbels, whose latest album on ECM deploys Ensemble Modern alongside old recorded voices, expanding on a musical tradition whose exponents include Gavin Bryars, Steve Reich and Scott Johnson.
Voices making their Flotation Device debut include John Aylward (US), Trio ETE (France) and the quintet Nakama (Norway and Japan), We round things out with a look back 50 years to the September 1972 premieres of an early example of Polish minimalism and a little-known chamber opera (or musical-scenic unity in the composer's words) by Karlheinz Stockhausen.
